Silent Killer
:

EXCERPT

Outcast walked across the street, up the walkway and knocked on the door.

“Yeah, what is it?”

“Dude, it’s you neighbor from across the way.  Man, I came to see if your okay,” Outcast said.

Adrian Tobias opened the door.

Outcast lifted the six pack of beer and smiled.  “Name’s Max Johnson.”

“Got any weed with that?” Tobias asked, smiling.

“Sorry dude, with all the cops around, I didn’t bring any, but I will next time.”

“Come on in and make yourself homely.” Tobias motioned for Outcast to enter.

“What’s going down?  The cops were climbing all over your place.”

“There’s a serial killer knocking off guys like me.”  Tobias sat in his frayed easy chair.

Outcast pulled a beer and tossed one to Tobias then took the couch.  “No shit.  What you’d do to piss the bastard off?”

“I and others bullied some guy in high school.  He’s now killing all of us who made his life . . . well, a living hell.”  Tobias popped the can open and took a swig.

“Wow, high school.  Man, who’d think a guy that’d maintain a grudge so long.”  Outcast took a deep swig.  The gun pushed into his back.

“This guy did, I mean does.”

“How does he do it?”

“He left some mechanism that puts a deadly gas into my house?”

“Did the cops tell you what it was?”

“Nah the cops told me nothing.”

“I’ll tell you.” Outcast finished his beer, crushed the can on his knee and stood.

“What?”

He slipped the pistol from its hiding place and aimed it at Tobias.  “I’ve been killing people, but the troopers have force my hand to take a different course of action.”

“What the fuck?”  Fear permeated Tobias’ voice.
“Don’t you recognize me?”

“No.”

“Guess.”

“Knut Mayer.”

“No.”

“Jonah Daniel.”

“No.

“Uh . ..”

“How about my voice?  Please don’t.  Stop kicking me.  I’m dying.”

“Oh my god.  It can’t be you.  They told me you were dead.”  Tobias’ eyes grew wide and he tried to launch himself from the chair.

Outcast fired the first bullet into Tobias’ knee.  The shot made silent phsst noise.  “Not by a long shot.”

Tobias screamed.  Blood soaked his pants at the knee.

Outcast raised a finger to his mouth and shot Tobias in the other knee.
